Synopsis

Nashik Municipal Corporation collected INR 196 crore in property tax over the past eight months, showing an 8% rise from the INR 181 crore collected during the same period last year. Cidco contributed the highest share, followed by Panchavati, Nashik East, Nashik West, Nashik Road and Satpur. The civic body has covered 71% of its full-year target of INR 275 crore. The rise is linked to early-payment rebates and an amnesty scheme for defaulters. Despite this progress, around INR 400 crore in pending dues still remain.

Nashik Municipal Corporation has reported a property-tax collection of INR 196 crore for the past eight months, marking an 8% increase compared with the INR 181 crore collected during the same period last year. The improvement comes at a time when the civic body is working to strengthen its overall revenue system across all divisions.

Among the six divisions, Cidco generated the highest collection at INR 42.8 crore. It was followed by Panchavati with INR 39.3 crore, Nashik East with INR 33 crore and Nashik West with INR 30.7 crore. The remaining amount was contributed by the Nashik Road and Satpur divisions. These figures underline the steady inflow of tax revenue from both residential and commercial pockets within the city.

NMC's annual property-tax target for the ongoing financial year is INR 275 crore. With the current level of collections, the civic body has achieved about 71% of the target and requires around INR 79 crore more to meet the full-year goal. Officials stated that the collection trend so far has been encouraging, supported largely by policy measures introduced earlier in the year.

One of the major contributors to the improved performance was the rebate of 3% to 8% offered to citizens who paid their dues early. This rebate window helped the corporation collect INR 111 crore between April and July, which formed a significant share of the revenue raised so far.

Another key support came from the amnesty scheme for tax defaulters, which was active from September to December. Under this scheme, a penalty waiver of up to 95% was available for those who settled their dues by the end of October, and an 85% waiver was available for payments made during November. The scheme led to the recovery of about INR 56 crore from defaulters between September and November.

Despite the successful response to the rebate and amnesty programmes, the NMC continues to face a substantial amount of pending tax. Officials confirmed that nearly INR 400 crore remains unpaid by various defaulters. The civic body has indicated that necessary action will be taken once the amnesty period concludes.
