Synopsis

Amazon Now is expanding its dark-store network at a fast pace, planning to add two new micro-fulfilment centres every day and cross 300 sites by the end of this year. The service currently runs through roughly 250 centres across Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai. Strong customer demand has encouraged the company to accelerate its rollout. Amazon Now enables delivery of essentials within minutes, groceries within hours, over one million items on the same day and about four million items by the next day. The move strengthens its position in India's growing quick-commerce market.

Amazon Now is scaling up its logistics network as it plans to add two new dark stores a day and cross 300 operational sites by year-end. The quick-commerce business is currently operating around 250 micro-fulfilment centres across Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai, the three cities where the service is already available. The company's India country manager, Samir Kumar, said the decision to speed up the rollout came after strong customer response to faster deliveries.

The expansion is focused entirely on the existing three markets, with new dark stores being added to strengthen local fulfilment capacity. Amazon Now provides delivery of daily essentials within minutes, full grocery assortments within hours, same-day delivery for more than one million products and next-day delivery for about four million items. These service levels have driven higher usage in dense urban areas.

The company has been building a deeper presence in India's quick-commerce category over the past year. Its wider Amazon network had already offered same-day and next-day options in several cities, and Amazon Now now adds a faster layer for high-frequency purchases. Industry trends show quick-commerce adoption rising steadily, especially in metros, prompting major players to expand micro-warehousing infrastructure.

Amazon Now's approach remains centred on strengthening last-mile efficiency, improving in-stock availability and reducing fulfilment times. With the year-end target of over 300 dark stores, the company is preparing for higher order volumes and stronger competition in the segment.
