An INR 83 crore railway overbridge at Jamunamukh in Assam's Hojai district was inaugurated this past week. The 951-metre structure, with a 7.5-metre wide motorable stretch, is aimed at easing movement between Dabaka, Kampur and Jamunamukh railway stations. Alongside the launch, the state government opened new community facilities and a model high school at tea estates, and initiated flood-protection works valued at around INR 80 crore for areas affected by the Kopili River. Several school-infrastructure projects were also started, and ongoing welfare schemes for low-income families were highlighted.
A new railway overbridge at Jamunamukh in Assam's Hojai district was inaugurated this past week. The structure, built with an investment of INR 83 crore, stretches 951 metres and includes a 7.5-metre wide motorable carriageway. It is expected to ease travel between the railway stations of Dabaka, Kampur and Jamunamukh, where traffic delays have been common for many years. Officials noted that the bridge is meant to offer safer and smoother road movement for both local commuters and transport vehicles.
During the event, the government also launched several community-focused projects. A model high school at Balijuri Tea Estate was inaugurated, along with new community halls and skill-development centres at Kandali, Dhantola and Sagunbahi tea estates. These facilities are intended to support students and workers in tea-growing areas, where access to educational and community infrastructure has traditionally been limited.
The programme further included the laying of foundation stones for new buildings at Barhampur Higher Secondary School and Jamunamukh Higher Secondary School. Officials stated that these buildings are part of broader efforts to upgrade educational infrastructure across the district.
In addition, the state initiated flood-protection works valued at around INR 80 crore under the Nagaon Water Resources Division. These measures aim to provide long-term relief to regions that face frequent flooding from the Kopili River, particularly around Kampur and Jamunamukh. The projects will focus on strengthening embankments and improving water-management systems.
The Chief Minister said earlier that development activities were slower under the previous administration and that welfare schemes had not reached beneficiaries efficiently. He conveyed that programmes such as Orunodoi, Mukhyamantrir Mahila Udyomita Abhiyan, Nijut Moina and Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana, along with subsidised distribution of pulses, sugar and salt through ration cards, have now been delivering more effective support to poor and middle-income households.
