Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a demolition drive in the Belapur ward earlier this week after the property owner failed to act on an earlier notice issued under MRTP Section 53(1A). Acting on directions from the civic chief and in compliance with an order of the Additional District Court, the encroachment department removed an unauthorised sheet structure at a residential unit in Kukreja Estate, Sector 11. Senior officials, engineers, labourers, police personnel, and support staff were deployed, using technical equipment and manpower to execute the operation.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) undertook a firm demolition drive in the Belapur ward earlier this week, following repeated non-compliance with a notice previously issued by the A-ward office. The civic body initiated the action in accordance with an order from the Additional District Court, Belapur, and under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with guidance from Additional Commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad.
Officials stated that property owner Umesh Malve of Flat H-101, Plot 36, Kukreja Estate, Sector 11, Belapur, had earlier received a notice under MRTP Section 53(1A), requiring voluntary removal of an unauthorised sheet structure. Since the individual reportedly did not take corrective action, the municipal team proceeded with the demolition earlier this week, clearing the illegal extension.
For the drive, Assistant Commissioner and Ward Officer Prashant Nerkar, along with Assistant Engineer Atmaram Kale and staff from the Belapur ward, were deployed on-site. The operation involved a seven-member labour team, one gas cutter operator, and other required equipment. Police personnel and security guards from the encroachment department were also stationed to maintain order during the demolition.
Officials added that similar enforcement measures would continue across Belapur ward, reinforcing the corporation's ongoing stance against unauthorised construction.
NMMC's latest action highlights the administration's increasing focus on strict urban regulation, particularly in rapidly developing nodes like Belapur. By engaging technical teams, engineering staff, and police support, the corporation aims to uphold planned development norms and discourage any attempt at unlawful expansion.
