ECoR has completed the breakthrough of Tunnel No.35, a 630 metre tunnel between Sikarpai and Keutguda stations on the Koraput-Singapur Road doubling project, achieving full alignment accuracy. Once the full road doubling project is completed, train operations on the Koraput-Rayagada section are expected to become smoother, with increased capacity and improved regional connectivity in southern Odisha and surrounding areas.
Officials noted that the milestone required close coordination among multiple engineering and construction teams. They also emphasized that such projects contribute to long-term infrastructure improvement and economic growth in the region. In previous stages of the doubling project, ECoR had adopted ballastless-track technology in tunnels, including a 600?metre tunnel between Baiguda and Kakirigumma stations. This technology ensures enhanced stability, durability, and reduced maintenance requirements, setting a benchmark for future rail projects.
The breakthrough also reflects ECoR's broader commitment to modernizing rail infrastructure.
