ECoR has completed the breakthrough of Tunnel No.35, a 630 metre tunnel between Sikarpai and Keutguda stations on the Koraput-Singapur Road doubling project, achieving full alignment accuracy. The milestone highlights precise engineering and coordinated work by senior officials and construction teams. Once the doubling project is fully operational, rail capacity and connectivity on the Koraput-Rayagada section are expected to improve significantly. Previously, ECoR had used ballastless-track technology in other tunnels to enhance stability, durability, and reduce maintenance needs, demonstrating a focus on long-term infrastructure quality.
The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has successfully completed the breakthrough of Tunnel No.35, a 630 metre-long tunnel on the Koraput-Singapur Road doubling project. The tunnel lies between Sikarpai and Keutguda stations in the Waltair division and has been executed with full alignment accuracy. The completion of this tunnel is a key milestone in the project, reflecting careful planning, engineering precision, and coordinated execution by the construction teams.
The project was closely monitored by the Chief Engineer, Construction-II, Visakhapatnam, along with senior officials from the Waltair division. ECoR highlighted that Tunnel-35's breakthrough demonstrates its focus on timely completion and quality in infrastructure development. Once the full road doubling project is completed, train operations on the Koraput-Rayagada section are expected to become smoother, with increased capacity and improved regional connectivity in southern Odisha and surrounding areas.
Officials noted that the milestone required close coordination among multiple engineering and construction teams. They also emphasized that such projects contribute to long-term infrastructure improvement and economic growth in the region. In previous stages of the doubling project, ECoR had adopted ballastless-track technology in tunnels, including a 600?metre tunnel between Baiguda and Kakirigumma stations. This technology ensures enhanced stability, durability, and reduced maintenance requirements, setting a benchmark for future rail projects.
The breakthrough also reflects ECoR's broader commitment to modernizing rail infrastructure. With multiple tunnels and advanced track technologies being deployed, the Koraput-Singapur section is poised to deliver faster, safer, and more reliable rail services. The project is expected to play an important role in supporting regional development and improving transportation efficiency across southern Odisha.
