Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has begun offering app-exclusive discounted monthly passes for Metro Line 3, aiming to encourage digital ticketing and reduce dependence on physical tokens. Commuters can now purchase 60-trip passes at a 15 % discount and 45-trip passes at a 10 % discount, with the entire process - from payment to activation - completed within the MetroConnect3 mobile app. The initiative, rolled out earlier this week, builds on MMRC's recent digital-first approach and is expected to extend to National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) users in the near future.
Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation announced earlier this week that it has introduced discounted monthly passes for travellers on Metro Line 3, offering the facility exclusively through its MetroConnect3 mobile application. Under this scheme, commuters may choose a 60-trip pass with a 15 % reduction or a 45-trip pass with a 10 % reduction, both designed to lower the cost of regular travel on the Aqua Line.
A senior official conveyed that the intention behind the scheme is to make everyday travel more affordable while strengthening the shift towards digital, contactless ticketing. The new pass system allows users to purchase, store and activate their travel passes entirely on their smartphones, bypassing queues and eliminating the need for paper-based or token-based tickets.
At present, the concession is limited to the MetroConnect3 app, which is available on both Android and iOS platforms. MMRC is working towards extending this facility to NCMC-enabled smart cards, which would eventually allow passengers using interoperable mobility cards to access the same discounted pass structure.
The corporation has also been gradually promoting digital adoption across its network. Earlier in the year, MMRC rolled out concessional trip-based passes for differently-abled commuters on the app, providing a 25 % discount as part of its broader inclusion-focused initiatives.
