Samko Renewable Energy Limited, a subsidiary of Samko Holdings UK, and SRAM & MRAM Projects Limited announced earlier this week that they had signed a Joint Venture Association Agreement to set up Samko SRAM & MRAM BESS Limited. The venture will spearhead the rollout of Nikola Tesla's multi-billion-dollar Smart City Project across India and the United Kingdom. The initiative will include integrated Gigafactory-led townships spanning at least 100 acres, combining advanced automation, renewable-energy systems, and circular manufacturing. The Tamil Nadu site and a location in the United Kingdom have already been identified for the first phase.
Samko Renewable Energy Limited, a subsidiary of Samko Holdings UK, and SRAM & MRAM Projects Limited, part of the SRAM & MRAM Group, announced earlier this week that they had entered into a Joint Venture Association Agreement to create Samko SRAM & MRAM BESS Limited. This new company will serve as the primary implementation arm for the Nikola Tesla Smart City Project, a global initiative involving the development of integrated manufacturing townships featuring GIGA Factories, commercial towers, shopping complexes, coffee shops, and resort infrastructure. The first smart-city cluster will begin in Tamil Nadu and extend to the United Kingdom.
The Smart City Project has been positioned as a multi-billion-dollar international programme, envisioning Gigafactory-scale developments on sites of no less than 100 acres. Each township will be built over 18 months and will include advanced automation systems, renewable-energy frameworks, and circular-economy production models, aligning with the global shift towards sustainable and technology-led industrial ecosystems. Similar global manufacturing-township concepts have gained momentum in recent years, particularly as governments promote clean-energy clusters and semiconductor-compatible industrial hubs.
SRAM & MRAM Group will contribute technological expertise, global partnerships, and offtake arrangements, including collaborations involving Tesla Group and other related entities. The group will also support the venture in securing government-backed grants and credit arrangements across the participating countries. Meanwhile, Samko Renewable Energy Limited will oversee financing coordination, land acquisition and rights, operational planning, and working-capital management for the project.
Dr Sailesh L. Hiranandani, Chairman of the SRAM & MRAM Group, conveyed that the association with Samko and TESLA Group a.s. is expected to accelerate innovations in renewable energy and biotechnology. He noted that the collaboration is intended to generate employment, advance technological capabilities, and contribute to economic growth across both nations involved. He added that their collective capabilities in global operations and technology will form the backbone of the venture's strategic direction.
Mr Nanda Bhagi, President of TESLA Group Global, remarked that the group required collaborative alliances with compatible partners to drive its global initiatives. He indicated that the association is expected to expand beyond the energy-storage segment and encompass manufacturing and energy-storage facilities across several international locations, with immediate priority placed on Tamil Nadu and the United Kingdom. He highlighted that the Smart City Project envisions a fully integrated township model featuring Gigafactories, commercial towers, malls, leisure zones, and hospitality spaces, intending to showcase a self-sustaining, modern urban ecosystem.
Industry figure and renewable-energy entrepreneur Mr Sampath Kumar Mallaya, known for his diversified business interests across hospitality, leisure, petrochemicals, and industrial asset management, has jointly worked with SRAM to finalise the Tamil Nadu and UK sites for the rollout. This marks India's first integrated smart-city programme with a Gigafactory at its core under the Nikola Tesla branding.
Mr Vaidyanathan, CEO of Samko Holdings, played a central role in developing Samko's technology stack, including its diversification into petrochemicals. His efforts have helped establish a strong operational and strategic link between Samko and SRAM, ensuring a cohesive partnership for executing the project.

The collaboration between Samko Renewable Energy, SRAM & MRAM Projects, and TESLA Group signals a strategic shift towards large-scale, integrated industrial townships built on renewable-energy infrastructure and advanced automation. With locations already identified in Tamil Nadu and the UK, the venture demonstrates growing global interest in manufacturing ecosystems centred around clean energy and circular-economy practices. As governments increasingly push for future-ready industrial clusters, the Nikola Tesla Smart City initiative places India and the United Kingdom at the forefront of next-generation, technology-driven township development.
