Synopsis

Nagpur Municipal Corporation is set to auction 113 properties worth INR 141 crore to recover around INR 1.9 crore in unpaid property taxes. The auctions, scheduled between December 12 and January 16, cover properties in multiple zones including Sitabuldi, Lendra Park, Zingabai Takli, Gorewada, Indora, Borgaon, Mankapur, Ajni, Somalwada, Khapri, Pardi, Hiwri, Subhedar Layout, and Sakkardara. The initiative is part of NMC's ongoing strategy to enforce tax compliance and enhance municipal revenue, following previous auctions earlier this year targeting overdue payments from other properties.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has announced plans to auction 113 properties valued at INR 141?crore to recover around INR 1.9?crore in pending property tax. The decision comes after repeated notices and public announcements failed to secure payments from defaulters. The auctions are part of NMC's ongoing efforts to enforce tax compliance and strengthen civic revenue collection.

The auctions will be conducted zone wise under NMC supervision between December 12 and January 16, with each zonal office managing its respective properties. Sitabuldi and Lendra Park areas have the highest dues, amounting to INR 21.78?lakh across 24 properties. Other significant arrears include INR 1.20?crore owed on 48 properties located in Zingabai Takli, Gorewada, Indora, Borgaon, and Mankapur. Additional dues comprise INR 14.43 lakh from 12 properties in Ajni, Somalwada, and Khapri, INR 13.28 lakh from properties in Pardi and Hiwri, and INR 11.02 lakh from select societies in Subhedar Layout and Sakkardara.

Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Milind Meshram stated that the initiative is aimed at ensuring compliance and improving the municipal body's revenue collection. Officials emphasized that such enforcement measures help maintain fairness among taxpayers who pay on time while addressing the growing backlog of unpaid taxes.

This is part of a larger trend by NMC. Earlier this year, the corporation had identified 149 properties for auction to recover INR 3.29 crore in overdue taxes, amid a total outstanding property tax arrear of over INR 938.7 crore. These ongoing measures highlight the civic body's sustained effort to improve property tax collection and prevent defaulters from evading payments.
