Synopsis

Tata Power is set to invest INR 10,000 crore to build a 10-GW ingots and wafers manufacturing plant in Odisha, crucial for solar cell, module, and semiconductor production. With an existing 4.55 GW cell and module capacity, the company plans to backward integrate its production to serve domestic and export markets. Two locations, Gopalpur and Cuttack, are under consideration due to their port proximity. This investment enhances Tata Power's solar manufacturing capabilities, strengthens supply chains, and reflects the company's commitment to supporting India's renewable energy growth and global market expansion.

Tata Power Company Ltd has announced plans to establish a 10-GW ingots and wafers manufacturing plant in Odisha, with an investment of INR 10,000 crore. Ingots and wafers are essential raw materials for producing solar cells, solar modules, and semiconductor chips.

Currently, Tata Power has a cell and module manufacturing capacity of 4.55 GW. The company intends to integrate ingots and wafers production to strengthen its solar cell and panel operations, catering to both domestic and international markets. The initiative is part of the company's broader strategy to enhance its solar manufacturing capabilities and ensure supply chain efficiency.

The company is considering two locations for the new facility: Gopalpur in Ganjam district and Cuttack. Both sites are close to ports, which would facilitate easier transportation and export logistics. This move aligns with Tata Power's ongoing efforts to expand its presence in the renewable energy sector and support India's solar manufacturing ambitions.
