Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has initiated a major cleaning drive on busy city roads and the MIDC area to reduce dust and air pollution. Under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailash Shinde and Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, all eight departments are actively participating. Roads such as Thane Belapur Marg, Amra Marg, and main MIDC streets are being cleared of accumulated soil using brooms, flipper machines, and mechanical vehicles, followed by washing with treated sewage water. Dust suppression foggers are deployed at busy intersections, and vigilance teams monitor construction and industrial sites.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has started a comprehensive cleaning operation to tackle dust and improve air quality on major roads and in the MIDC industrial areas. The initiative comes after Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailash Shinde directed department heads to implement concrete measures against air pollution. The cleaning drive began immediately and is being carried out with a focus on efficiency and thoroughness.
The campaign, overseen by Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, involves all eight departments under the supervision of City Engineer Shirish Aardwad and Solid Waste Management Deputy Commissioner Ajay Gade. Key roads targeted include Thane Belapur Marg, Amra Marg, and other busy streets in the MIDC area. Teams are removing soil and debris from the roadside using wire brush brooms and flipper machines, which is then transported away for proper disposal. Once cleared, roads are washed using mechanical washing and sprinkler vehicles, while jet spray vehicles and NCAP dust suppressor foggers spray water into the air to settle dust particles. Notably, purified and treated sewage water from modern sewage treatment plants is being used for these operations.
On the first day of the campaign, main roads such as South Central Road in Turbhe, South Feeder Road in Ghansoli, Mahape-Koparkhairane Road, and other key streets were thoroughly cleaned. With winter conditions causing increased smog and dust levels, the civic authorities are closely monitoring the cleaning process.
Vigilance teams have been activated at the departmental level to ensure dust control at construction sites, quarries, and cement RMC plants. These teams include engineers, sanitation officers, and inspectors. The Municipal Corporation has emphasized that this cleaning campaign will continue regularly, with strict sector-wise attention on dust prevention and public health protection.
