Synopsis

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the reservation of 46 posts under the 5th Battalion of the UPSSF, Saharanpur, to bolster security along the Noida-Greater Noida Metro corridor. The sanctioned positions include one assistant commandant, three sub-inspectors, six head constables, and 36 constables, who will be deployed across 21 metro stations. The decision, based on a proposal from the ADG (UPSSF), follows rising security demands at metro stations and adjoining transport hubs. The 5th Battalion already oversees duties at the RRTS corridor, Hindon Airport, and Saharanpur Airport. This deployment aims to enhance operational efficiency, staff welfare, and public safety while preparing for future transit-linked security needs.

The UP state government has formally authorised the reservation of 46 posts for the 5th Battalion of the UPSSF, Saharanpur, to provide dedicated security across 21 stations on the Noida-Greater Noida Metro Rail corridor. A government order issued by the home department's special secretary stated that the proposal, originally submitted by the ADG of the UPSSF, was prompted by mounting security requirements at metro stations and adjoining transport hubs.

The breakdown of the newly sanctioned positions includes one assistant commandant, three sub-inspectors, six head constables and 36 constables. These personnel will be exclusively deployed to enhance the security grid of the metro network. The official letter further noted that the state government had previously reserved posts for the Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) security, with the 5th Battalion already tasked with duties at the RRTS Noida-Greater Noida corridor, Hindon Airport and Saharanpur Airport; additional deployment on the fourth section of the RRTS is also under consideration.

The special secretary emphasised that without allocating the proposed 46 posts, the operation's efficiency, morale and welfare of the deployed personnel would be difficult to maintain. Consequently, after due consideration, the government granted formal approval for the reservations under the 5th Battalion of the UPSSF to meet both present and future security needs along the metro corridor. The ADG (UPSSF) was instructed to execute the necessary follow-up actions in line with prescribed norms.

By approving the 46 posts, the government has taken a concrete step towards strengthening the security architecture of the Noida-Greater Noida Metro network. This allocation not only addresses current staffing shortfalls across a key urban transit corridor, but also positions the force to meet evolving transport-linked security challenges. The dedicated deployment of UPSSF personnel is expected to streamline operations, enhance station-level oversight and support both immediate and future security imperatives on the metro line.
