Punjab Minister Shri Sanjeev Arora met the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav earlier this week to assess progress on ongoing infrastructure projects and address delays in major works across the state. The meeting focused on issues including the Ludhiana-Ropar highway, Adampur Airport approach road, and Halwara Airport connectivity. Arora emphasised the need for swift approvals, faster tendering, and improved highway maintenance to ensure safety and timely completion of critical projects.
Punjab Minister Shri Sanjeev Arora held a review meeting with NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav earlier this week to evaluate the progress of ongoing infrastructure projects and resolve pending matters across the state.
During the meeting, Arora underscored the urgency of developing the approximately three-kilometre approach road near Adampur Airport, noting that the stretch comes under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and must be taken up by the NHAI immediately to ensure safe and efficient airport access.
A major point of discussion centred on the Ludhiana-Ropar highway, where the minister expressed concern over significant execution delays and urged that the project be re-tendered and expedited to complete long-pending works.
The minister also highlighted bureaucratic hurdles affecting the National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML) parking project. In response, Yadav directed concerned NHLML officials to grant necessary approvals without delay so that work could begin soon.
Raising the issue of the Ludhiana cycle track, a pilot initiative by the NHAI, Arora called for closer supervision and intervention from the Regional Office (RO) Punjab to ensure timely completion for the benefit of commuters and cyclists.
Further discussions covered the recurring problems of fund disbursement and portal glitches impacting the Delhi-Katra highway. Arora mentioned that technical issues on the central funds portal were hampering work and creating financial uncertainty. The NHAI chairman instructed the RO Punjab to fix these problems promptly to ensure uninterrupted fund flow.
The Jalandhar-Amritsar highway also underwent a detailed review, with both parties agreeing to fast-track action plans to resolve pending issues and enhance traffic management and safety.
With commercial operations expected to begin at Halwara Airport soon, Arora emphasised the need for robust road connectivity to support travel demand from the Malwa region. He also raised concerns about persistent congestion near SPS Hospital and Sherpur, where incomplete works continue to disrupt daily traffic. Yadav assured that steps would be taken to speed up pending works and ease congestion.
Arora further urged the NHAI to strengthen routine maintenance across Punjab's highways, including timely surface repairs and restoration of street lighting to improve night-time road safety.
Yadav gave assurances that all matters raised by the minister would be handled on priority, instructing regional officials to act without delay to ensure visible progress on all fronts.
The meeting between Minister Shri Sanjeev Arora and NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav underscored Punjab's focus on timely infrastructure delivery and improved connectivity. The NHAI committed to addressing delays in key projects such as the Ludhiana-Ropar highway and Adampur Airport road, while also ensuring smoother fund flow and maintenance across highways. The discussions signalled stronger coordination between state and central authorities to enhance road safety and efficiency across Punjab.
