Synopsis

The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) imposed fines totaling INR 20 lakh on two construction companies for breaching environmental rules. ISGEC Heavy Engineering Ltd and Express Infraway were found storing construction materials and loose soil without green net coverage or water sprinklers, causing dust pollution. The action follows National Green Tribunal directives, with the UPPCB verifying sites after complaints. These penalties highlight stricter enforcement of green norms, reminding construction firms to comply with environmental guidelines and reduce air pollution in urban areas.

Two construction companies in Noida have recently been penalized for failing to comply with environmental norms and National Green Tribunal (NGT) directives. The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) fined ISGEC Heavy Engineering Ltd and Express Infraway INR 10 lakh each after inspections revealed loose soil and construction material left uncovered at their project sites in Sector 142.

The UPPCB conducted field verification earlier this month after receiving complaints through the integrated grievance redressal system (IGRS). The regional officer reported that no green net covers or water sprinklers were used, allowing dust to spread from the materials into the environment. The letter noted that dust was further dispersed by passing vehicles, increasing air pollution in the area.

The regional officer had sent a letter to the Noida Authority to impose green compensation and directed the district magistrate to ensure execution of the fines. The action underscores ongoing government efforts to enforce environmental compliance in construction, following previous instances where fines were imposed on firms for similar violations, including unauthorized construction during pollution control periods or without clearances.

Officials emphasized that such measures are critical to controlling air pollution and maintaining public health standards. Construction companies are now being urged to prioritize environmental safety by covering materials, using water sprays, and strictly following NGT and UPPCB guidelines to avoid further penalties.
