The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has instructed its field offices to ensure that information about the Local Monthly Pass and Annual Pass is clearly displayed at all toll plazas. The move aims to improve user awareness and transparency. Details will be provided in English, Hindi and the local language through signage at visible locations. The information will also be available on the Rajmargyatra app and NHAI's websites. The Local Monthly Pass is for residents near toll plazas, while the Annual Pass applies to private vehicles nationwide.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued a directive to all its field offices, requiring them to display detailed information about the Local Monthly Pass and Annual Pass at every toll plaza. The initiative is part of the authority's ongoing effort to make highway travel more transparent and user-friendly, while ensuring commuters are aware of available concessional travel options.
Under the new instructions, signage boards containing details of both passes will be installed at key visible points such as toll plaza approaches, customer service areas and entry or exit points. The boards will display information in English, Hindi and the regional language to ensure accessibility for all users. Field offices have been asked to complete the installation within 30 days and maintain visibility during both day and night in line with existing fee rules.
In addition to physical displays, the information will also be available on the Rajmargyatra mobile app and the respective NHAI project websites. This digital integration will allow travellers to conveniently check eligibility, application procedures and benefits online before reaching the toll plaza.
The Local Monthly Pass can be availed by private vehicle owners residing within approximately 20 km (or as specified) of a toll plaza. Applicants must submit their Aadhaar card, vehicle registration certificate and proof of residence. After verification, the pass is issued at the plaza's helpdesk. This facility is expected to benefit daily commuters who frequently use nearby highways.
Meanwhile, the Annual Pass, which was introduced earlier this year, is valid for one year or up to 200 crossings, whichever occurs first. It applies to private vehicles such as cars, jeeps and vans, and can be purchased through the Rajmargyatra app for a one-time payment of INR 3,000. Once purchased, the pass is digitally linked to the vehicle's FASTag and can be used at around 1,150 toll plazas across the country.
According to NHAI, this measure aligns with its larger goal of improving user experience, promoting transparency in toll operations and making travel more economical for frequent highway users. It also supports the government's broader digital mobility initiatives aimed at simplifying toll transactions and reducing congestion at toll plazas.
