Synopsis

The Himachal Pradesh government has approved central assistance worth INR 3 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 - BLC component to support 117 eligible families in Una district. Each beneficiary will receive INR 2.5 lakh in four instalments to construct or upgrade their homes. The approval forms part of a larger district-wide plan covering 256 houses across various towns, with a total outlay of INR 6.40 crore. Beneficiaries have been instructed to begin construction immediately and complete it within a year.

The Himachal Pradesh government has sanctioned central assistance of nearly INR 3 crore for 117 families in Una district under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 - Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) component, according to an official from the Una Municipal Council. The initiative aims to provide financial support for the construction and upgradation of houses for eligible urban families who do not own a pucca home.

Under this scheme, each beneficiary family will receive INR 2.5 lakh, distributed in four instalments linked to the progress of construction. The first instalment of about INR 70,000 will be released after the completion of the plinth, the second instalment of INR 60,000 will follow upon wall construction, the third instalment of INR 60,000 will be given after roofing, and the remaining amount will be disbursed upon full completion of the house.

In addition to the Una Municipal area, layout approvals have been extended to other urban local bodies in the district. A total of 40 families in Bangana, 36 in Amb, 30 in Santokhgarh, 13 in Mehatpur-Basdehra, 9 in Daulatpur Chowk, 7 in Tahliwal and 4 in Gagret will benefit under this scheme. Collectively, 256 houses are set to be developed under an overall financial outlay of INR 6.40 crore.

Officials have urged beneficiaries to begin construction immediately and complete it within the one-year time frame specified under PMAY-U 2.0 guidelines. They also stressed the importance of adhering to approved technical designs, building standards, and geo-tagging requirements for transparency and progress tracking. The scheme's implementation will be closely monitored by local municipal authorities to ensure compliance and timely completion.

This assistance is part of the broader central allocation released to Himachal Pradesh under the PMAY(U) 2.0 component for FY 2025-26. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs had earlier released a "mother sanction" of INR 3 crore to the state government to support affordable housing construction in smaller towns and semi-urban regions.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) was launched in 2015 to ensure housing for all eligible beneficiaries in urban areas through various components, including In-Situ Slum Redevelopment, Credit Linked Subsidy, Affordable Housing in Partnership, and Beneficiary Led Construction. The BLC component specifically targets individual beneficiaries who wish to construct or enhance their own houses on land they own.
