The renovated Terminal 2 (T2) at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport was inaugurated earlier this week by Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu. Initially built by the Airports Authority of India four decades ago, the terminal had been closed for renovation in April. With an upgraded annual capacity of 15 million passengers, the modernised facility aims to ease the load across the airport's three terminals and support growing air traffic in the national capital.
Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu inaugurated the newly renovated Terminal 2 (T2) at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport earlier this week, with the terminal set to become operational the following day. Originally built by the Airports Authority of India about forty years ago, T2 had been temporarily closed for renovation in April this year. After extensive refurbishment, it now features enhanced facilities and an annual handling capacity of around 15 million passengers.
The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), India's largest and busiest airport, currently operates three terminals - T1, T2, and T3 - along with four runways. The airport manages more than 1,300 flight movements each day, catering to both domestic and international routes.
During the inaugural ceremony, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) Chief Executive Officer Videh Kumar Jaipuriar mentioned that the airport collectively possesses the capacity to handle over 100 million passengers per year. DIAL, which operates IGIA, had stated earlier this year that the expanded T1 can accommodate up to 40 million passengers annually, while T3 can manage 45 million passengers.
The reopening of Terminal 2 marks a significant milestone in Delhi's aviation infrastructure development, aligning with efforts to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency at one of Asia's busiest airports. With DIAL's continued focus on expansion and modernisation, the upgraded terminal is expected to balance passenger traffic across terminals and contribute to the overall capacity of more than 100 million passengers annually at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
