The Madhya Pradesh government, in collaboration with NITI Aayog, has introduced the Growth Hub initiative to formulate a long-term economic development strategy for the Indore and Bhopal regions. The plan aims to strengthen local economies, curb unplanned urban expansion, and create a framework for sustainable growth. The initiative's first phase will focus on preparing detailed economic profiles, priority project lists, and implementation roadmaps for key districts under both economic regions.
The Madhya Pradesh government, in partnership with NITI Aayog, launched the Growth Hub initiative earlier this week to design a comprehensive economic development strategy for the Indore and Bhopal regions. The state's chief secretary, Anurag Jain, chaired the meeting where the programme was formally introduced.
According to an official, this move represents a significant step towards building a long-term plan for balanced and sustainable regional growth. The NITI Aayog delegation at the meeting was led by Principal Economic Advisor Ana Roy, who stated that the goal was to finalise a comprehensive economic master plan for both economic regions by the beginning of the next financial year, with NITI Aayog extending full support to the state government.
Chief Secretary Jain emphasised that a well-structured economic plan would not only reinforce the economies of Indore and Bhopal but also help in controlling unregulated urban expansion. The first phase of the Growth Hub initiative will concentrate on the Indore Economic Region'comprising Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Dhar, Khargone, Ratlam, Shajapur, and Khandwa-and the Bhopal Economic Region, which includes Bhopal, Rajgarh, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, and Narmadapuram.
As part of the project, economic profiles, a priority project list, and an implementation roadmap will be prepared for these districts. The second phase will later extend to Jabalpur, Satna-Rewa, Sagar, and Gwalior regions. The NITI Aayog made a presentation outlining the concept, while participating districts shared details of their economic profiles, opportunities, constraints, and a 90-day action plan.
Following detailed discussions with the Steering Committee and senior officials, consensus was reached on several priority areas-such as establishing Common Facility Centres, plug-and-play infrastructure, enterprise support hubs, logistics and warehousing facilities, skill and apprenticeship programmes, investment incentives, and integrated master planning.
Officials noted that the initiative aligns with the 'Developed Madhya Pradesh' vision, which aspires to ensure prosperity, employment, and cultural pride for citizens. The G-Hub programme seeks to achieve high growth, better livelihoods, and improved ease of living through policy simplification, project-based implementation, land availability, infrastructure integration, and investment promotion.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary of Planning, Economics and Statistics, Sanjay Kumar Shukla; Madhya Pradesh State NITI Aayog CEO, Rishi Garg; and senior departmental officials. Representatives from various districts participated virtually.
Through the Growth Hub initiative, Madhya Pradesh aims to create an integrated framework for balanced regional growth across its key economic zones. With NITI Aayog's strategic backing, the state plans to align policy reforms, infrastructure development, and investment opportunities to ensure long-term economic resilience. The initiative reflects the state's broader vision of achieving inclusive prosperity and improved living standards for its citizens.
