Synopsis

Pune Municipal Corporation suspended two TDR department officials for permitting illegal construction at a Baner property. The sixth-floor slab was complete, and work on the seventh floor had begun without approval, while the proposal for additional TDR was still under review. This step reflects PMC's ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with building rules and prevent misuse of development rights. Earlier, sanitation staff were suspended and other officials transferred. The civic body is actively inspecting properties to detect violations and strengthen regulatory oversight.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has suspended two officials in its Transferable Development Rights (TDR) department for failing to prevent unauthorized construction at a property in Baner. Junior engineer Shubhangi Tarukmare and deputy engineer Sandeep Misal were suspended under section 56(2)(F) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act, pending a departmental inquiry.

The property in question was approved for a certain number of floors using TDR, but additional floors were being constructed without proper permission. The sixth-floor slab had already been completed, and construction of the seventh floor had started, even though the proposal for using extra TDR was still under review. PMC stated that the TDR cell had not reported this unauthorized work, highlighting lapses in monitoring and compliance.

This action comes as part of PMC's broader efforts to strengthen accountability among its officials. Earlier, the corporation had suspended three employees from the sanitation department in Hadapsar for poor cleanliness and transferred other officials, including an assistant commissioner and ward officer, as part of administrative reforms to improve monitoring and enforcement of municipal rules.

Authorities have emphasized that such steps are necessary to ensure building regulations are strictly followed and to prevent misuse of TDR provisions, which are meant to regulate floor space and construction rights in the city. PMC is continuing inspections across various wards to detect any ongoing unauthorized construction and take corrective measures.
