The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a demolition drive in the Belapur division after property owners ignored prior notices regarding unauthorised construction. Acting under the orders of the Additional District Court and following the directives of Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, the Encroachment Department, led by Additional Commissioner Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner Dr Kailas Gaikwad, executed the clearance operation with the support of civic and police personnel.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) recently initiated a demolition operation against an unauthorised structure located at Ayesha Apartment, Plot No. Y-1A, Sector 19, Shahbaz, Belapur. Despite prior notices issued under Section 53 (1A) of the MRTP Act, the concerned property owners failed to remove the illegal construction on their own. In compliance with the Additional District Court's order issued in early September 2025 and as per the directives of Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, the Encroachment Department conducted the eviction under the supervision of Additional Commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad. Announcements were made through loudspeakers a day prior to notify occupants to vacate, following which the demolition was executed.
The operation, carried out by the Belapur Divisional Office, involved a team led by Assistant Commissioner and Divisional Officer Dr Amol Palwe and Assistant Engineer Atmaram Kale. The drive utilised manpower and machinery including 25 labourers, six hammers, two gas cutters, one poklan, and one JCB. Police officers and security personnel from the NRI Police Station in Seawoods were also present to ensure smooth execution of the clearance activity.
The NMMC has stated that similar demolition actions will continue across other divisions to curb unauthorised constructions within its jurisdiction. The civic administration reaffirmed its commitment to uphold urban planning regulations and maintain order by intensifying enforcement against encroachments in Navi Mumbai's residential and commercial zones.
