Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari recently inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several key infrastructure projects in Puducherry, focusing on urban mobility and regional connectivity. The initiatives include an INR 436 crore elevated corridor, improvements to a 14-km stretch of the East Coast Road, and the 38-km four-lane Puducherry-Poondiankuppam section of National Highway 32, developed at INR 1,588 crore. Additionally, Gadkari dedicated three national highway projects worth over INR 2,000 crore. These projects aim to reduce travel time, boost economic activity, and enhance road safety across the region.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, recently visited Puducherry to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for several important infrastructure projects aimed at improving road connectivity and urban mobility. The visit began with the opening of an INR 436 crore, four-kilometer elevated corridor linking Indira Gandhi Square and Rajiv Gandhi Square, designed to ease traffic congestion in the city and provide a smoother commute for residents.
During the visit, Gadkari also dedicated to the nation three national highway projects with a combined value exceeding INR 2,000 crore. One of the key projects inaugurated was the 38-km, four-lane Puducherry-Poondiankuppam section of National Highway 32, constructed at a cost of INR 1,588 crore. This highway section is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve the efficiency of transportation for both people and goods, supporting the growth of trade and economic activity in the region.
In addition, Gadkari inaugurated improvement works on a 14-km stretch of the East Coast Road, involving an investment of INR 25 crore. These enhancements focus on improving road safety and driving comfort for commuters while facilitating smoother traffic flow along this busy route.
The inauguration event was attended by prominent leaders including Puducherry Lieutenant Governor K Kailashnathan, Chief Minister N Rangasamy, Union Minister L Murugan, Tamil Nadu Public Works Department Minister E V Velu, other Puducherry ministers, and Speaker R Selvam. The projects are part of a broader push by the government to accelerate infrastructure development and enhance regional connectivity, aligning with the national goal of faster highway construction and improved transport networks.
Earlier this year, Gadkari emphasized the government's objective to award highway projects worth INR 10 lakh crore annually and increase highway construction to 100 kilometers per day, highlighting the continuous focus on strengthening the nation's road infrastructure and supporting economic growth.
