Sify Infinit Spaces, part of Nasdaq-listed Sify Technologies, has initiated construction of Visakhapatnam's first 50 MW AI-powered Edge Data Center alongside an Open Cable Landing Station (CLS). The project, spread over a 3.6-acre plot allocated by the Andhra Pradesh government, carries an estimated investment of INR 1,500 crore and will be executed in two phases. The facility is expected to create employment for more than 1,000 people, focusing on locally trained technical staff for both construction and operational phases.
The Edge Data Center will connect through an Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) substation and will incorporate at least two diverse fibre networks to ensure carrier-neutral redundancy and the capacity for hyperscale expansion. The CLS will provide low-latency connectivity between India and Southeast Asia, covering countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, as well as Australia. This is aimed at boosting AI-grade computing and enhancing the city's global connectivity profile.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Andhra Pradesh Minister for IT, Electronics & Communications, Nara Lokesh, highlighted Visakhapatnam's emergence as a digital gateway on India's eastern coast. He mentioned that the infrastructure would strengthen the state's position on the global technology map, catalyzing innovation, job creation, and investment. Lokesh also noted that approvals for a mega data center are already in place, indicating further expansion plans.
Raju Vegesna, Chairman of Sify Technologies, described the project as a key milestone in both Andhra Pradesh's digital transformation and India's journey toward technological self-reliance. He emphasized the role of the initiative in turning Visakhapatnam into a hub for global digital infrastructure and in advancing AI-led innovation at scale.
The development aligns with the Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board's strategy, which has approved four major projects totaling INR 20,216 crore. These projects collectively aim to generate substantial employment, boost technological infrastructure, and position the state as a center for next-generation digital services.
