India highlights railway modernisation and green technology at IREE 2025

Synopsis

India showcased its rapid progress in railway modernisation at the 16th International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) 2025, held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The exhibition focused on integrating advanced technologies like AI, IoT, and green solutions, promoting sustainable growth, and supporting MSMEs. Key highlights included modern trains such as Vande Bharat and Namo Bharat, electrification projects, Gati Shakti Freight corridors, and world-class station infrastructure. Global collaborations and the Make-in-India initiative were central themes, reflecting India's commitment to economic growth and Net Zero Carbon goals by 2030.

India's participation in the 16th edition of IREE 2025 highlighted the country's strong focus on modernising railway infrastructure. Organised by the Ministry of Railways in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the exhibition aimed to display India's capabilities in advanced railway technologies and global partnerships.


Key stakeholders briefed media ahead of the event, emphasizing themes such as youth involvement in sustainable railway technologies, collaboration with global industry leaders, and steps to simplify business processes for domestic and international participants. The exhibition showcased AI, IoT, and green technologies while supporting MSME participation and aligning with the Make-in-India initiative.

Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information and Publicity, Indian Railways, explained that India is steadily transitioning from a developing to a developed nation under the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He highlighted that exhibitions like IREE empower railway manufacturers to compete globally and demonstrate India's achievements in railway infrastructure, including trains like Vande Bharat and Namo Bharat, and advanced production capabilities.

Sitaram Sinku, Additional Member (PU), Indian Railways, noted that the country is modernising its fleet, rolling stock, stations, signals, and telecommunications while developing viaducts and Gati Shakti Freight corridors. This transformation is supported by large-scale electrification and adoption of green technologies. He emphasized that these innovations not only drive economic growth but also bring India closer to becoming a Net Zero Carbon emitter by 2030.

B Thiagarajan, Chairman of the CII Trade Fairs Council, described IREE 2025 as a key platform connecting Indian Railways with global equipment manufacturers. He stated that this edition marks a significant moment in India's journey to set global benchmarks for railway modernisation, sustainability, and smart mobility.

The exhibition also highlighted corporate participation. Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd presented its expanded portfolio for the railway sector, including propulsion systems, HVAC, seating solutions, and lightweight composite components, enhancing passenger comfort, energy efficiency, and operational performance. Collaborations with -koda, Compin Fainsa, and Air International Thermal Systems aim to bring advanced technologies to India, further supporting Make-in-India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.

Puneet Kaura, Managing Director of Samtel Avionics Limited, observed that the event reflects India's commitment to modernising infrastructure and fostering industry-government collaboration. IREE 2025 provided a platform for adopting new technologies, expanding business opportunities, and strengthening India's presence in the global railway sector.
