Synopsis

Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw recently inspected the ongoing construction of Bilimora station, a key stop on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor. The station's design is inspired by Bilimora's famous mango orchards, with modern passenger amenities, sustainable features, and anti-vibration infrastructure for high-speed trains. Across the 508-km corridor, significant progress has been made, including the completion of viaducts, pier work, river bridges, noise barriers, and ongoing tunnel excavation. Rolling stock depots in Surat and Ahmedabad are under construction, and station superstructures in Gujarat are at advanced stages.

Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw recently visited the Bilimora station under construction along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor. Accompanied by Valsad MP Dhaval Patel and Gandevi MLA Naresh Patel, he reviewed the station's facade, internal spaces, platform areas, and ongoing track-laying activities.

Bilimora station, one of 12 planned stations on the 508-km corridor, has a facade inspired by the city's well-known mango orchards. Its design incorporates ample natural light and ventilation, while the false ceilings are suspended from anti-vibration hangers to reduce the impact of high-speed train vibrations. Passenger amenities include waiting lounges, nurseries, restrooms, retail outlets, lifts, and escalators, ensuring convenience for elderly travelers, differently-abled individuals, and families with children. The station premises are being landscaped with trees and saplings to create a green environment.

For passenger convenience, dedicated pick-up and drop-off zones, separate parking for buses, cars, two-wheelers, and EV charging stations are planned. The station also emphasizes sustainability through features aligned with Indian Green Building Council guidelines, such as efficient water use, rainwater harvesting, low-flow sanitary fixtures, low heat gain interiors, and low VOC paints.

Construction across the corridor is advancing steadily. Out of the total 508 km, 325 km of viaducts and 400 km of pier work have been completed. Seventeen river bridges, including five pre-stressed concrete and ten steel bridges, are already installed. Over 400,000 noise barriers have been erected along 216 km, while 217 km of reinforced concrete track beds are finished. More than 2,300 overhead electrification masts have been installed along a 57-km stretch, and excavation for seven mountain tunnels in Palghar district is underway, with five km of the 21 km tunnel between BKC and Shilphata already excavated. Rolling stock depots in Surat and Ahmedabad are under construction, and station superstructures in Gujarat are at advanced stages.

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) continues to work at full pace to operationalize the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project. The Ministry of Railways has set a target to launch the first operational stretch of the bullet train between Surat and Bilimora by 2027.
