Synopsis

The Arunachal Pradesh government has laid out an expanded push to strengthen railway networks across the state. The Naharlagun station is being upgraded under the Amrit Bharat scheme, and the Pasighat station is expected to be completed soon. A detailed project report (DPR) for the Pasighat-Tezu-Parshuram Kund-Rupai line is ready. Surveys have also been concluded for the Silapathar-Bame-Along and Misamari-Tawang routes. These developments are aimed at opening remote regions, boosting trade and tourism, and integrating the state more closely with the national rail grid.

Arunachal Pradesh is moving ahead with several railway initiatives to deepen its connections with India's national rail network. The state's Chief Minister said that the Naharlagun railway station is undergoing improvement under the Amrit Bharat scheme, and work on the Pasighat station is expected to be wrapped up in the near future. The Pasighat hub is intended to link the eastern Siang region more directly to national lines, easing passenger and goods movement.

The government has also completed the detailed project report for the Pasighat-Tezu-Parshuram Kund-Rupai route. Once built, this line may act as a vital corridor for trade and tourism across the Brahmaputra valley zone, connecting cultural and economic centers.

Further, field-level surveys are done for two additional lines: the 96-km Silapathar-Bame-Along stretch and the 198-km Misamari-Tawang route. The latter is strategically important because it reaches high-altitude districts near the India-China border and could strengthen access and security in those regions.

Officials believe these rail projects will yield multiple benefits: faster movement of goods and people, new business opportunities for local entrepreneurs, better access to education and healthcare in remote areas, and overall economic upliftment of disadvantaged regions.

In the past, Arunachal Pradesh's difficult terrain limited its rail connectivity. Over time, works like the Rangiya-Murkongselek line and the Bogibeel Bridge have helped, but much of the state remained disconnected. The new projects are part of a longer effort to bring frontier regions into the mainstream network.

At the same time, the state is coordinating with other infrastructure agencies. Recently, the Chief Minister held a meeting with officials from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to review road and strategic infrastructure projects across the state.

Another recent development is the inauguration of Arunachal's first commercial coal mine in Changlang district, which marks a move toward industrial activity that would benefit from improved connectivity.
