K Raheja Corp, one of India's leading real estate conglomerates, conducted a creative volunteering session under its 'Time Off for Volunteering' policy earlier this week. The initiative, titled Tactile Braille Card Making for the Visually Impaired, brought together employees from Mindspace Business Parks REIT, K Raheja Corp Homes, Inorbit Mall, and Chalet Hotels Ltd. The session aimed to promote empathy, accessibility, and social inclusion within the community.


During the workshop, employees used threads, textures, toothpicks, ice cream sticks, and other materials to craft tactile Braille learning cards representing animals, fruits, flowers, vegetables, and daily objects. These handmade cards were intended to help visually impaired children learn and engage with their surroundings through touch.

Adding a special dimension to the experience, visually impaired youth attended the session to test the accuracy of the cards. One participant, Ajay, expressed that Braille served as their language of independence and that it was heartening to see corporate India devote time to understanding its importance. He noted that being part of the session allowed him to share his world with others while experiencing theirs, adding that he was delighted the cards would assist young children beginning their Braille journey.

The atmosphere turned even more vibrant when another visually impaired attendee played music, underscoring that inclusion is not merely about involvement, but about shared understanding and joy.

Urvi Aradhya, Chief Human Resources Officer at K Raheja Corp, stated that meaningful change began with empathy and participation. She remarked that the initiative showcased how creativity and collaboration could make a tangible impact, reflecting the company's values of care, inclusion, and social responsibility.

Gargi Modi, Chief Operating Officer at ConnectFor, appreciated the employees' deep engagement, adding that the session extended beyond volunteering to build empathy and a sense of community.

The tactile Braille cards were later donated to an NGO for continued use. Through its 'Time Off for Volunteering' programme, K Raheja Corp has long encouraged its workforce to take paid time off to engage in meaningful causes. Past initiatives have included beach clean-ups, school painting drives, wheelchair assembly, and creative projects like shoe painting, all aimed at fostering lasting community bonds and social contribution.
