The District Development Authority (DDA) in Udham Singh Nagar has halted all construction activities in about 900 unauthorized colonies to prevent unregulated urban expansion. The decision follows repeated encroachments on government land and rising instances of illegal multi-storey buildings. Officials noted that property transactions through stamp deeds have significantly outpaced legal registrations, revealing irregularities in land sales. Authorities have warned that ongoing or future violations will face strict legal action and possible demolition. The move targets developers operating without approvals and aims to restore lawful urban development.
The District Development Authority (DDA) of Udham Singh Nagar has imposed a comprehensive ban on construction in approximately 900 illegal colonies across the district. This decision follows persistent encroachments on Nazul land and widespread unregulated building activity. The order, issued under the direction of District Magistrate Nitin Singh Bhadauria, targets colonies that have been developed without adhering to legal norms or development standards.
Areas identified for violations include Rudrapur, Kashipur, Bajpur, Khatima, Nanakmatta, Gadarpur, Dineshpur, and Jaspur. Officials suspect that some developers, often working with middlemen, have been illegally carving out plots and selling them, bypassing all legal and construction norms.
DDA Secretary Pankaj Upadhyay highlighted that nearly 900 colonies have been developed illegally in the district. He stated that all construction activities in these colonies have been immediately stopped and warned that anyone violating the rules will face strict legal action. Upadhyay emphasized that no ongoing illegal constructions will be allowed to continue and that penalties, including demolition, will be enforced.
The administration also noted that land sales through stamp papers have now outnumbered legally registered transactions, signaling large-scale irregularities in property dealings. Upadhyay clarified that the practice of bypassing registry requirements will no longer be tolerated and authorities will monitor such transactions closely.
Rudrapur, a growing industrial hub with several national companies operating in the SIDCUL area, has seen a surge of people relocating from states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. This population influx has led to vast stretches of land being converted into illegal colonies, with multi-storey buildings rising rapidly, often allegedly aided by local property dealers.
The DDA has made it clear that any ongoing or future construction in these colonies will be penalized, and illegal buildings are subject to demolition. The administration aims to ensure that urban growth in Udham Singh Nagar follows legal procedures, protecting the interests of legitimate property owners and preventing further unauthorized expansion.
