The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has stepped up its efforts to recover pending property taxes, sealing several properties across the city. Defaulters, despite repeated notices, have not cleared dues, leading to action in areas including Ambience Island and Bestech Cyber Park. Some property owners owe over INR 10 million each, with total outstanding dues exceeding INR 280 million. The MCG has warned that properties with unpaid taxes may be auctioned. This move is part of ongoing measures to secure funds for city infrastructure and development.
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has reinforced its measures against property tax defaulters, sealing multiple properties in various city zones. This action comes after repeated notices to property owners who have failed to pay their dues despite multiple reminders.
In Ambience Island, Zone-3, three properties were sealed due to arrears totaling INR 30 million. The operation was led by Zonal Taxation Officer Rajesh Yadav and carried out under the supervision of MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya. The commissioner highlighted that property tax is a crucial source of revenue for the corporation, funding key development works such as roads, water supply, and sanitation. He cautioned that if dues remain unpaid even after sealing, the properties could be auctioned to recover the outstanding amounts.
A recent audit report identified 120 major property tax defaulters, each owing more than INR 10 million. The total outstanding dues stand at INR 280.6 million, excluding INR 18.4 million in fire tax and INR 35.6 million in development charges. For the current financial year, the MCG projected property tax revenue of INR 275 million, lower than the previous year's projection of INR 300 million. In the 2024-25 fiscal year, the corporation generated INR 232.9 million, achieving 77% of its target.
The crackdown is not limited to residential properties. Commercial establishments, including restaurants and office buildings in Bestech Cyber Park, were also identified for non-payment. The MCG has made it clear that properties with unpaid taxes may face auction if the dues are not cleared promptly. Authorities emphasized that this strict enforcement is necessary to maintain financial discipline, ensure timely revenue collection, and fund ongoing and upcoming city development projects.
MCG officials also noted that public awareness campaigns are being strengthened to remind property owners of their tax obligations. Notices, reminders, and personal visits are part of the comprehensive effort to reduce outstanding dues and improve compliance.
