The Indore Metro project marked a significant advancement by conducting a trial run on a newly extended route reaching Radisson Square, covering Vijay Nagar and Sukhlia for the first time. The technical team ran the train from Gandhi Nagar through Heera Nagar Square, culminating in the new stretch after roughly one hour. The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation aims to begin commercial services on this extension by January, and the expansion is expected to boost ridership in the newly served localities.
The Indore Metro project recently achieved a fresh milestone when its technical team carried out an extended trial run, reaching Radisson Square from the SC-03 Station on Super Corridor. The trial commenced around noon from Gandhi Nagar, passed through Heera Nagar Square, and traversed the new 5.5 km section that now links Vijay Nagar and Sukhlia to the metro network. The full stretch to Radisson Square was completed in about an hour.
S. Krishna Chaitanya, Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (MPMRCL), lauded the team for their dedication and cooperation in making this advancement possible. The metro accelerated for the first seven kilometres, though it reduced speed near the Chandragupt Maurya Statue Square to about 10-15 km/h to carry out crucial technical inspections.
The management has set a target to launch commercial operations on this extension by January. The 17.5-kilometre corridor extension is considered vital, as it connects busy and densely populated sectors such as Vijay Nagar and Sukhlia. Once operational, this route is anticipated to register a substantial increase in passenger traffic.
This development reflects a pivotal stride in Indore's urban transit infrastructure, promising enhanced connectivity for underserved localities. The successful trial underlines the technical readiness and operational planning of the metro team. As ridership grows, the extension is expected to play a crucial role in optimising traffic flow, reducing road congestion, and strengthening Indore's public transport backbone for the future.
