Synopsis

Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 have been operating on a temporary timetable for seven days as part of the integration of Metro Line 7 with the upcoming Line 9 Phase-I section. The Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) announced the revised schedule to facilitate final safety trials and system integration between Gundavali and Kashi Gaon, ensuring a smoother connection from Andheri to Mira Bhayander under the Red Line expansion.

To facilitate the seamless integration of Metro Line 7 with the soon-to-be-launched Line 9 Phase-I section, the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) informed commuters that services on Metro Lines 2A (Dahisar East - Andheri West) and 7 (Gundavali - Ovaripada) would follow a temporary schedule for a week. The operational adjustment was introduced to support final integration and safety trials linking Metro Line 7 with the new section between Dahisar East and Kashi Gaon.

Currently, Metro Line 7 operates between Gundavali and Ovaripada, serving 13 stations. As its extension, Line 9, nears completion, key testing activities such as Independent Safety Assessor (ISA) evaluations, trial runs, and commissioning procedures have been underway. The Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) had successfully conducted inspections for the Phase-I section late last month, confirming readiness for integration trials.

To ensure safe commissioning, MMMOCL has been carrying out trial runs between Gundavali and Kashi Gaon during this phase. Consequently, the first train operations on both Lines 2A and 7-which typically begin around 5:25 a.m.-were temporarily revised to later timings for the duration of the trial period. Commuters were advised to refer to the updated schedules available on the Mumbai 1 App, MMMOCL's social media pages, and at metro stations before planning their journeys.

MMMOCL expressed gratitude to passengers for their patience and cooperation during this important phase of Mumbai Metro's expansion, noting that such system integration and safety exercises represent a critical step towards the launch of the new corridor.

The temporary changes in the operational schedule for Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 signify a major step towards completing the Red Line's extension through Line 9. Once operational, the Gundavali to Mira Bhayander corridor is expected to deliver seamless east-west and north-south connectivity across the western suburbs, easing congestion and improving travel convenience for daily commuters. MMMOCL's ongoing integration efforts mark a crucial advancement in Mumbai's expanding metro network.
