The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced earlier this week that it has commenced widening works on the left-hand carriageway near Subroto Park Air Force Station, expanding it from two lanes to four. The initiative aims to ease congestion between Dhaula Kuan and Delhi Airport, particularly at the Parade Road underpass. The project also includes a new foot overbridge, enhanced drainage systems, and pollution control measures such as anti-smoke guns and water sprinklers. Completion is expected within the next six months.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) stated earlier this week that it has begun widening the left-hand side of the carriageway near Subroto Park Air Force Station, expanding it from two lanes to four. The move is intended to improve traffic flow and strengthen connectivity between Dhaula Kuan and the Delhi Airport.
According to the authority, the project will help eliminate the traffic bottleneck that currently exists on the left side of the road near the beginning of the Parade Road underpass, where vehicle movement from Delhi towards Gurugram is restricted. To make space for the expansion, the ongoing works include the relocation of the drain, the peripheral road, and a section of the Air Force Station's boundary infrastructure. The project is expected to be completed in approximately six months.
Additionally, the plan features the construction of a new foot overbridge near Subroto Park Air Force Station, at the starting point of the RTR flyover. This will improve pedestrian safety and provide better connectivity for those crossing the busy stretch. The scheme also incorporates an upgraded drainage network to facilitate efficient disposal of rain and surface water.
In an effort to ensure environmental sustainability, the project includes measures such as tree transplantation and the deployment of anti-smoke guns and water sprinklers to reduce dust and emissions during construction. NHAI also mentioned that traffic marshals, tow-away cranes, and safety cones would be deployed to effectively manage vehicular movement along the highway while work is underway.
The authority added that once completed, the widened section is expected to bring a notable improvement to the transport infrastructure in the National Capital Region, significantly enhancing connectivity between Delhi and Gurugram and offering long-term benefits for daily commuters and residents.
The Subroto Park carriageway widening forms part of NHAI's broader strategy to decongest major arterial routes within the National Capital Region. With measures addressing both traffic efficiency and environmental safeguards, the project is positioned to provide smoother connectivity between Dhaula Kuan and Delhi Airport. Upon completion, it is anticipated to ease bottlenecks, enhance safety for motorists and pedestrians, and contribute to improved travel experience between Delhi and Gurugram.
