Progota India Pvt. Ltd., an associate company of Concord Control Systems Ltd., has obtained the 'Technical Prototype Clearance' from the Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO) for the latest version of the Kavach 4.0 automatic train protection (ATP) system. The approval allows the company to conduct its trial order with the South Central Railway zone and qualifies it as a developmental vendor for future tenders under Indian Railways. Concord recently increased its shareholding in Progota from 26 % to 46.5 %, further strengthening its collaboration for the rollout of Kavach 4.0.
Progota India Pvt. Ltd., an associate of Concord Control Systems Ltd., has received the 'Technical Prototype Clearance' from the Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO) for the Kavach 4.0 system, which is Indian Railways' latest version of its automatic train protection (ATP) technology. The approval marks an important step toward the wider implementation of the upgraded safety system across the railway network.
Following this clearance, Progota India is now authorised to carry out its ongoing trial order with the South Central Railway zone. The company has also been recognised as a developmental vendor for upcoming Kavach 4.0 tenders, opening the door for participation in future procurement opportunities under Indian Railways.
Kavach 4.0 is an advanced train protection system designed to prevent collisions and improve operational safety by enabling real-time communication between locomotives and trackside equipment. It functions automatically to control train movement when drivers fail to respond to signal warnings, reducing human error and enhancing safety across routes. The system is part of Indian Railways' long-term plan to equip more than 34,000 route km with this technology.
Nitin Jain, Joint Managing Director of Concord Control Systems, stated that securing the RDSO's prototype clearance was a significant achievement for Progota India and reaffirmed the company's efforts to contribute to the government's vision of promoting indigenous rail technology under the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative.
To strengthen its partnership with Progota, Concord recently raised its equity stake in the company from 26 % to 46.5 %. This move aligns with its strategic goal of advancing the commercialisation and deployment of Kavach 4.0 across multiple railway zones. The companies are expected to play a key role in the large-scale rollout of the system, which forms a central part of Indian Railways' ongoing safety and modernisation drive.
Before receiving this clearance, Concord had already secured its first order for the Kavach 4.0 system through Progota India, valued at approximately INR 19.45 crore. The order includes the design, supply, and installation of the system on locomotives and trackside infrastructure. This project serves as a pilot for future deployments under Indian Railways' wider implementation plan.
With RDSO approval now in place, Progota joins a limited group of authorised vendors for the next phase of Kavach 4.0 deployment. This recognition underscores the growing confidence in indigenous safety solutions and marks a step forward in India's journey toward a fully automated and safer railway network.
