Synopsis

BCPL Railway Infrastructure Ltd (BCPL) has received a contract worth INR 32.58 crore from Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) for overhead electrification (OHE) modification in parts of the Dhanbad Division under East Coast Railway. The project involves 25 kV works, including design, supply (excluding certain steel structures and conductors), erection, testing, and commissioning of a 2×25 kV feeder line system. The project is targeted to support a 3,000-tonne loading capacity and is expected to be completed within 16 months. BCPL's management expressed optimism about sustained project inflows in the rail electrification sector.

BCPL Railway Infrastructure Ltd (BCPL) has bagged a new order valued at INR 32.58 crore from Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) for carrying out modification work related to 25 kV overhead electrification in two sections GMX-MHDA (Gurmura to Mahadia) and SKTN (Shakti Nagar) under the Dhanbad Division of the East Coast Railway. The project is scheduled to be completed in 16 months, adding to BCPL's growing list of railway electrification assignments.

According to the company, the scope of the work includes design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of a 2×25 kV feeder line along with 25 kV OHE modification activities. The supply scope excludes galvanized steel structures and all categories of conductors such as feeder wire, BEC, and AEC. These works are part of RVNL's efforts to modernize power supply systems and strengthen the capacity of freight routes under the division.

The project is designed to facilitate a loading capacity of 3,000 tonnes across both the up and down lines between Gurmura (GMX) at kilometre 119.16 and Mahadia (MHDA) at kilometre 194.63, along with the Shakti Nagar (SKTN) section at kilometre 32.13. The work will involve modification and extension of existing overhead systems to enable higher load handling and improve traction performance for freight operations.

BCPL's Chairman, Aparesh Nandi, shared that the company continues to see steady inflows of railway projects, covering EPC contracts, modification work, and new line installations. He also mentioned that multiple projects are being awarded to improve rail infrastructure, including the addition of third and fourth lines and enhancement of train speeds.

BCPL, headquartered in Kolkata, has been an active player in railway electrification and traction system works for several years. Its past assignments include upgradation of 25 kV traction systems in the Kharagpur-Bhadrak section and OHE installation for the Araria-Thakurganj new line. The company is also engaged in design and commissioning services for Indian Railways, particularly in high-load and energy-efficient rail corridors.

This latest order reflects a continuation of BCPL's collaboration with RVNL, one of India's major public sector enterprises under the Ministry of Railways. RVNL has been actively awarding contracts for feeder line enhancements, signalling, and track electrification as part of the national programme to achieve full railway electrification. Industry data indicates that over 93 percent of India's broad-gauge routes have already been electrified, and the remaining sections are expected to be completed in the near future.

The project's 16-month schedule positions it to contribute to RVNL's ongoing efforts in capacity expansion and load optimization. It also aligns with the government's broader plan to enable seamless freight movement and improve energy efficiency across the Indian Railways network.
