A 150-feet double-storey Bailey bridge on the Ramban-Gool road at Metra, Ramban district, was inaugurated recently. Built jointly by the White Knight Corps, NHAI, and the local administration, the bridge is designed to support about 150,000 people in Ramban, Sangaldan, and Gool. It replaces a washed-away road stretch caused by heavy rainfall and landslides. The bridge will be opened fully for public use after safety and technical checks are completed.
A 150-feet long double-storey Bailey bridge was inaugurated on the Ramban-Gool road at Metra in Ramban district of Jammu during the past week. The structure has been built by the White Knight Corps of the Indian Army with support from the National Highway Authority of India and the local administration.
The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, stated that the bridge has become a symbol of relief and support for nearly 1.5 lakh residents in Ramban, Sangaldan, and Gool. He explained that better road connectivity would make movement easier for people and reduce the hardships caused by disrupted access. He also underlined that recent heavy rains and landslides damaged existing infrastructure, which had led to serious inconvenience, financial losses, and delays in transport and essential services.
According to Defence PRO Jammu, a section of the Karol-Maitra road in the Ramban-Reasi belt was washed away due to heavy rainfall, cutting off a vital link. The completion of the Bailey bridge restores road access and ensures that emergency supplies, routine transport, and movement of goods and people can resume. Army engineers worked under challenging conditions to complete the structure within a short time frame.
Officials mentioned that before the bridge is opened fully for public use, it will undergo necessary safety and technical checks. Once cleared, it is expected to serve as an all-weather link connecting the Gool, Sangaldan, and Ramban areas with other parts of the region.
