The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a new sub-rule to simplify property name transfers. Instead of the previous percentage-based fees, fixed charges will now apply based on property value slabs. For example, properties valued up to INR 50 lakh will incur a flat fee of INR 5,000, significantly reducing costs for middle-class families. A 10% surcharge will apply if the transfer isn't completed within 90 days. The PMC will seek public feedback before finalizing the rule.
The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a new sub-rule that introduces fixed fees for property name transfers, modifications, and alterations within the municipal limits. Previously, property owners used to pay a fee ranging from 0.5% to 1% of the property's value, which often amounted to substantial sums, particularly for middle-class families. Under the new system, the fee structure is based on property value slabs, making the process more affordable.
Properties valued up to INR 50 lakh will now have a fixed fee of INR 5,000, a significant reduction from the earlier fee of INR 50,000 for properties of the same value. This change is expected to benefit a large number of citizens in the city.
However, the new rule also stipulates that if the name transfer is not completed within 90 days of application, an additional 10% surcharge will be imposed. It's important to note that if a property was purchased less than three months before the implementation of the new rule and the owner delays the name transfer, they will not be eligible for the reduced fee benefits.
Before the new sub-rule is officially enforced, the PMC plans to issue a public notice inviting objections and suggestions from citizens. These inputs will be reviewed by the 12-member Municipal Executive Committee and discussed in the Corporation meeting before the final approval and implementation.
In addition to property-related reforms, the PMC is also focusing on improving street lighting ahead of major festivals like Durga Puja and Dussehra. This initiative comes in response to repeated complaints by councillors about delayed streetlight repairs.
