Synopsis

Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport is set to expand its capacity to 100 million passengers annually with the reopening of Terminal 2 in late October. Built 40 years ago, the terminal was closed for renovation earlier this year to upgrade facilities and improve passenger handling. From the night of October 25-26, around 120 daily domestic flights operated by Air India and Indigo will move to T2, while Terminals 1 and 3 continue operations. The airport, with four runways, currently handles about 1,400 flight movements each day.

Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi is set to bring its upgraded Terminal 2 into operation from late October, boosting the airport's total annual passenger handling capacity to 100 million. The airport, which remains the busiest in the country, has three terminals: T1, T2, and T3.

Terminal 2, originally constructed 40 years ago by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), was closed for extensive renovation earlier this year in April. The upgrade has focused on modernizing facilities and improving passenger handling capacity. Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), the airport operator, confirmed that the reopening of T2 will coincide with the start of the winter flight schedule. Around 120 daily domestic flights operated by Air India and Indigo are expected to move to the upgraded terminal from the night of October 25-26.

Currently, Terminals 1 and 3 remain fully operational to handle ongoing flight operations. IGIA, with its four runways, manages approximately 1,400 flight movements every day, serving as a major hub for domestic and international travel. The modernization of Terminal 2 reflects ongoing efforts to enhance airport infrastructure and improve passenger experience, catering to the growing demand in India's aviation sector.
