Synopsis

Prism, the parent company of OYO, is expanding its premium hotel brand Sunday Hotels with plans to open 40 new upscale properties across India during the current financial year. The expansion will include 4-star and 5-star hotels in both metros and smaller cities, with an additional focus on tourism-heavy locations such as wildlife sanctuaries and religious destinations. Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are expected to contribute more than 40% of the new portfolio. The brand is also finalising talks with hotel owners for projects in cities including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Raipur.

Prism, the parent company of OYO, is fast-tracking the growth of its premium hospitality arm, Sunday Hotels. The company has drawn up plans to add 40 new upscale properties, including 4-star and 5-star hotels, in the ongoing financial year.

The expansion plan covers a mix of metros and non-metro cities. It also gives attention to areas with growing tourism activity, such as wildlife reserves and religious centres, which continue to attract steady visitor traffic.

States such as Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan will play a central role in this growth plan. Together, they are expected to account for more than 40% of Sunday Hotels' upcoming portfolio. This approach reflects the rising demand for premium accommodation in these regions, which have recorded consistent tourist inflows and business travel in recent years.

Aditya Sharma, Business Head of Sunday Hotels and Resorts, explained that the brand aims to combine global hospitality practices with local operations and technology. He noted that this model is designed to remain flexible and profitable, making it viable for both long-established hotel owners and new entrepreneurs.

The company is also in advanced discussions with leading hotel owners to expand its footprint in key urban centres. New properties are being planned in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Raipur. These locations are considered important as they strengthen the brand's position in both established and emerging markets.

Prism, formerly known as Oravel Stays, recently rebranded as part of its preparation for a public listing. The rebranding signals the group's intent to broaden its portfolio beyond budget offerings and strengthen its presence in premium hospitality through Sunday Hotels.
