NAREDCO urges PM's birthday be marked as 'Right to Housing Day'

The National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) has approached the Prime Minister, suggesting that his birthday be celebrated as 'Right to Housing Day' to acknowledge his efforts in advancing affordable housing in India. The industry body highlighted that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, over four crore homes have been built, with further expansion expected through PMAY-U 2.0. NAREDCO also commended GST rationalisation and reforms such as RERA, which have strengthened transparency and professionalism in the real estate sector, pledging continued support for 'Housing for All'.

The National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO), a prominent industry body for the realty sector, has written to the Prime Minister requesting that his birthday be observed as 'Right to Housing Day'. NAREDCO Chairman Niranjan Hiranandani noted in the letter that the country has been fortunate to see the vision of Housing for All advance from aspiration to reality.


Highlighting the success of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Hiranandani pointed out that more than four crore homes have been constructed, and initiatives such as PMAY-U 2.0 are expected to further accelerate housing development. In recognition of these efforts, he conveyed that commemorating the Prime Minister's birthday as 'Right to Housing Day' would be a fitting tribute to his vision for a developed, inclusive, and empowered India.

NAREDCO reaffirmed its commitment to promoting 'Housing for All' and ensuring that every Indian has access to adequate and dignified housing. The body also welcomed the rationalisation of GST rates, describing the move and simplification of processes as key steps in fortifying the country's economic foundations.

Hiranandani added that under the Prime Minister's leadership, the real estate sector has undergone a historic transformation, with reforms such as RERA and GST ushering in an era of transparency, accountability, and customer-centric professionalism.

With policies like PMAY, RERA, and GST reforms, the sector has become more transparent, structured, and inclusive. The body has committed to continuing its support for nationwide housing initiatives, reinforcing the goal that every Indian should have access to dignified living spaces while benefiting from a reformed, efficient housing ecosystem.
