The foundation stone for Gurugram Metro's first phase was laid this past week by Haryana's Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini and Union Urban Development Minister Shri Manohar Lal Khattar. The project, estimated at INR 5,600 crore, will stretch 28.5 km, linking Millennium City Centre with Sector 101 through 13 stations. Leaders highlighted its role in reducing congestion, boosting connectivity across NCR, and driving real estate growth, with industry voices pointing to significant opportunities along the Dwarka Expressway, SPR, and Sohna Corridor.
The first phase of Gurugram's metro received its ceremonial start when Haryana Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini and Union Urban Development Minister Shri Manohar Lal Khattar jointly laid the foundation stone earlier this week. The leaders emphasised that the metro would ease congestion, lower pollution, and serve as a milestone in strengthening the city's transport infrastructure while enhancing connectivity across NCR.
The project's initial phase will cover 28.5 km, with a 15.22 km viaduct forming a key section of the development. The alignment will link Millennium City Centre with Sector 101 in Gurugram, passing through 13 other stations, marking one of the city's most significant urban transport upgrades.
Khattar stated that the project, expected to cost INR 5,600 crore, would play a crucial role in ensuring rapid development across Gurugram, Manesar and Faridabad, reinforcing the region's position as a commercial and residential hub.
Industry representatives echoed the optimism. Pradeep Aggarwal, Chairman of Signature Global (India) Ltd., expressed that the metro expansion symbolised a defining moment for the city. He noted that metro connectivity formed the backbone of urban ecosystems, and the new 15 km stretch with 15 additional stations would significantly improve mobility, ease traffic congestion, and create new avenues for both businesses and residents.
He further pointed out that the metro, along with complementary infrastructure such as the Dwarka Expressway, Southern Peripheral Road and Sohna Elevated Corridor, would collectively transform Gurugram into a better-connected urban hub. These initiatives, he remarked, were not only strengthening the real estate potential along SPR and Dwarka Expressway but also laying the groundwork for sustainable and inclusive urban growth.
By addressing traffic congestion and strengthening NCR's transport network, the project is expected to drive both economic and residential growth. With major developers and stakeholders highlighting its transformative potential, the metro, together with other ongoing corridor projects, is set to reshape Gurugram's property market and urban ecosystem in the coming years.
