The Siddhivinayak Temple Trust in Mumbai has planned an expansion by acquiring Ram Mansion, a residential building near the temple, for INR 100 crore. Talks are also ongoing with the Siddhivinayak Cooperative Housing Society to buy its land. Together, both plots measure about 1,800 sqm and will allow the trust to build a darshan queue complex, a food hall, toilets, changing rooms, and staff housing. The move aims to improve facilities for devotees, as the temple currently struggles to manage large crowds during peak days.
The Siddhivinayak Temple Trust in Prabhadevi, Mumbai, has decided to acquire Ram Mansion, a three-storey residential building with 20 flats spread across a 708 sqm plot, for INR 100 crore. Alongside this, the trust is in discussion with the Siddhivinayak Cooperative Housing Society (CHS), which is located next to the temple, for additional land. Together, the combined area will add up to nearly 1,800 sqm for temple expansion.
The trust has planned new infrastructure on the land, including a darshan queue complex similar to the one at Shirdi Sai Baba Temple, a prasadalaya or food hall, toilets, and changing rooms for devotees. Staff accommodation is also part of the plan. Currently, the temple does not have adequate open space for long queues, and devotees often wait on the road under the sun and rain.
Trust officials said the INR 100 crore price being paid for Ram Mansion, a residential building next to the temple, is nearly one and a half times higher than the average property rate in the area, but the trust agreed to the price considering the building?s location is next to the temple. Once cleared, the land will be redeveloped for the expansion.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has already taken up a parallel project to construct underground parking for 450 cars near the temple. The civic body is also carrying out beautification and road upgrades in the surrounding areas, including Dadar, Mahim, Parel, Worli, and parts of Lower Parel.
The project is expected to improve crowd management, comfort, and safety for the lakhs of devotees who visit the Siddhivinayak Temple every year. Officials clarified that no changes will be made to the sanctum or internal areas of the temple.
