The Maharashtra government has formed a high-powered committee to oversee the redevelopment of approximately 4,900 flats in SVP Nagar Colony, Andheri. The initiative is intended to modernize the colony and provide residents with improved housing facilities while addressing urban infrastructure needs.


The committee will be responsible for selecting a construction and development agency through a transparent tendering process. This agency will handle rehabilitating existing residents, managing monthly rents, providing temporary accommodation during construction, and developing the necessary infrastructure. To ensure smooth progress, the committee will review the redevelopment project every four months.

This project is part of a broader effort by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) to revamp older housing colonies across Mumbai. MHADA has previously partnered with Adani Properties for redeveloping Motilal Nagar, a 142-acre area in Goregaon (West), which is considered one of its largest redevelopment projects. Sunteck Realty has been awarded rights to redevelop a society in Andheri East, with an estimated project value of around INR 1,100 crore.

By leveraging lessons from past projects, the committee aims to ensure that the SVP Nagar redevelopment is executed efficiently and benefits all residents. The project also underscores the state's commitment to improving housing conditions and addressing the challenges of dense urban living.

The committee's responsibilities extend to monitoring construction quality, ensuring timely completion, and maintaining transparency throughout the process. Residents can expect a structured rehabilitation plan, smooth transition arrangements, and upgraded infrastructure upon project completion.
