The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) undertook a major demolition drive in Ghansoli after notices issued under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966 were ignored by the property owner. Officials stated that despite repeated warnings, construction continued without prior permission. The operation, conducted under the directives of senior civic authorities, involved labourers, breakers, and a gas cutter, with police support present at the site. Authorities have confirmed that similar action will be enforced in future against unauthorised structures.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation carried out a demolition drive in Ghansoli after the encroachment department noted that despite serving notices, the concerned individuals failed to act. The action was executed under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with additional guidance from Additional Commissioner (II) Dr Rahul Gete and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad.
Investigations revealed that property owner and developer Jaywant Gaikar had begun construction in Sector 21, Ghansoli, without obtaining prior approval from NMMC. Reinforced cement concrete work for the ground-floor columns was already underway, and the first-floor slab was found to be in progress. Officials said that a notice under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966 had been served, requiring the owner to remove the unauthorised construction voluntarily. However, work continued despite this directive.
As a result, NMMC organised a second demolition drive at the site. The operation was executed with the help of eight labourers, three breakers and a gas cutter. The campaign was overseen by Assistant Commissioner and Ward Officer Uttam Kharat, along with Junior Engineer Ritesh Purav, other encroachment department staff, and a police team deployed to maintain order.
Civic officials confirmed that the municipality would continue to undertake such intensive actions to curb illegal construction activity across the city.
The demolition at Ghansoli highlights the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation's renewed determination to act against unauthorised construction. Despite repeated notices and legal provisions requiring voluntary removal, construction had continued, leading to decisive enforcement. With the involvement of civic officials, police support and demolition machinery, the drive was carried out successfully. Authorities indicated that further strict action of this nature would continue to be taken to prevent violations and maintain regulatory compliance.
