Synopsis

The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority has approved seven new Town Planning (TP) Schemes across satellite villages surrounding the city. The initiative aims to urbanise nearly 1,000 hectares and create land for infrastructure such as roads, while preparing Ahmedabad for upcoming large-scale sporting events. Areas including Saij, Godhavi, Kaneti, Nidhrad and Manipur are among those identified for structured development.

The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority recently gave clearance for the introduction of seven new TP Schemes in villages located on the city's periphery. This decision was taken to guide orderly suburban expansion while equipping the region with essential infrastructure in anticipation of major sporting events scheduled to be hosted in Ahmedabad.

The new schemes will cover villages such as Saij, Godhavi, Kaneti, Nidhrad and Manipur, spanning close to 1,000 hectares. Through these projects, AUDA intends to make land available for new roads and other civic facilities, thereby driving systematic urbanisation in surrounding zones.

Officials highlighted that these schemes will not only provide improved connectivity but will also ensure that urban pressures are managed efficiently. The structured planning process is expected to convert rural outskirts into functional urban extensions, aligning with the city's broader development strategy.

The approval of these TP Schemes represents a calculated move by AUDA to integrate surrounding villages into Ahmedabad's growth trajectory. By unlocking land for infrastructure and promoting well-planned expansion, the authority aims to enhance liveability and connectivity on the city's edges. If implemented effectively, these schemes could reshape the urban profile of the peripheries while supporting Ahmedabad?s ambitions as a host of significant sporting events.
