The PM Svamitva Yojana is helping families in rural Andhra Pradesh gain formal ownership of ancestral lands long held without documents. Using drones and rovers, survey teams are mapping properties in villages and Gram Kantham Abadi areas, creating accurate digital records. Families are receiving legal certificates that resolve boundary disputes and unlock access to credit and financial independence. In phase one, 5.18 lakh parcels were surveyed; the ongoing second phase targets 43.22 lakh properties across 5,850 villages by October 31, with a third phase to cover 45 lakh more. The scheme also boosts panchayat revenues by bringing untaxed properties into the tax net.
Many families in rural Andhra Pradesh live on ancestral lands without formal documents, which has limited their ability to sell or use the property as collateral. The PM Svamitva Yojana, launched by the Union Government and actively implemented by the Andhra Pradesh Government, is addressing this issue by providing legal ownership through advanced surveying technologies.
Utilizing drones and rovers, survey teams are meticulously mapping village properties, including Gram Kantham Abadi areas and extended Gram Kanthas. This data is being digitized to create accurate village maps, enabling the issuance of ownership certificates to families. These certificates not only resolve boundary disputes but also open avenues for financial independence.
The implementation of the scheme is structured in phases. In the initial phase, 5.18 lakh property parcels were surveyed. The ongoing second phase aims to cover 43.22 lakh properties across 5,850 villages, with a target completion date of October 31. The third phase will address an additional 45 lakh parcels. This systematic approach is expected to permanently resolve rural property disputes and streamline records for future generations.
The program is set to boost the revenue of local panchayats. Properties that have remained untaxed for decades will now be identified and brought into the tax net, ensuring accountability and strengthening local bodies with much-needed funds.
