Synopsis

The Indian REITs Association (IRA) has become part of the Global REIT Alliance, a newly formed coalition established to advance the cause of Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) worldwide. The alliance was unveiled during the EPRA ReThink conference in Stockholm, uniting 24 countries and regions to develop a common voice for advocacy, exchange insights, and set standards for the REIT industry. This move is expected to strengthen India's presence in the global REIT landscape.

The Indian REITs Association (IRA) announced that it had joined the Global REIT Alliance, an international coalition designed to promote Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) globally. The alliance was launched during the European Public Real Estate Association's (EPRA) ReThink conference held in Stockholm, Sweden, bringing together 24 countries and regions under a unified platform.

The initiative aims to establish a strong voice for REIT advocacy while encouraging knowledge-sharing and the development of standard practices across international markets. It is being positioned as an important step to align REIT structures, create collaborative opportunities, and foster cross-border market perspectives.

Preeti Chheda, Executive Committee Member of the IRA and Chief Financial Officer of Mindspace Business Parks REIT, remarked that the alliance would serve as a crucial platform for collaboration with the global REIT community. She explained that it would enable the exchange of market insights and support collective efforts to drive the growth of REITs across geographies.

India currently has five listed REITs: Knowledge Realty Trust, Brookfield India Real Estate Trust, Embassy Office Parks REIT, Mindspace Business Parks REIT, and Nexus Select Trust. With the IRA now part of this global grouping, Indian REITs are expected to gain greater international visibility and access to global best practices.

India's entry into the Global REIT Alliance reflects the country's growing importance in the global real estate investment trust ecosystem. By collaborating with 24 other markets, Indian REITs are set to benefit from shared knowledge, aligned standards, and stronger advocacy on international platforms. The development not only enhances India's global presence but also strengthens its potential to attract institutional investors and expand opportunities for the country's listed REITs.
