Transport Corporation of India Limited (TCI), one of the country's prominent providers of multimodal logistics, warehousing and supply chain solutions, announced the opening of one of its largest warehouses earlier this week in Kolkata. The new facility, located at CGTA Nagar, covers nearly 3 lakh sq. ft. of space on 10.5 acres of land. It is positioned as a vital hub for Eastern and North-eastern India and will also support cross-border trade with Bhutan, Bangladesh and Southeast Asia.
The warehouse is designed to serve multiple industries, including automotive, e-commerce, FMCG, retail and textiles, while also offering cold-chain capabilities. TCI's CEO, Manoj Kumar Tripathi, remarked that the new warehouse reflects the region's growing economic activity driven by supportive state policies and enhanced connectivity with the North-east through major government infrastructure projects. He noted that the facility has been built with modern features prioritising sustainability, futuristic design and eco-conscious operations, making it a strong choice for companies looking to build greener supply chains.
Tripathi further highlighted that Kolkata holds special significance for TCI, as the company was founded there in 1958 by Shri Prabhu Dayal Agarwal. Since then, the firm has grown to become one of India's largest multimodal logistics players.
The warehouse incorporates sustainable construction and modern technology, including fly ash brickwork, rainwater harvesting, natural lighting and low-VOC paints. Additionally, it features ultra-flat laser screed flooring, robotics-compatible systems and energy-efficient designs aimed at supporting high-volume and future-ready operations.
With the launch of this advanced facility in Kolkata, TCI has reinforced both its operational capacity and its historic connection to the city. The eco-conscious design and robotics-ready infrastructure highlight the company's focus on sustainability and technological readiness, while its strategic location is expected to strengthen cross-border trade and regional logistics networks. The development further consolidates TCI's role as a key player in supporting diverse industries across Eastern India, the North-east and neighbouring countries.
