Synopsis

The Telangana High Court has questioned the Rangareddy district collector over alleged illegal construction on Bhoodan lands in Nagaram village, Maheswaram mandal. Despite earlier court directions to maintain status quo and mark the lands as prohibited, boundary walls and other works were reported. Petitioner Birla Mallesh submitted photographs of ongoing activity and said that complaints made in July were ignored. Justice K. Lakshman has now asked the collector to submit a detailed counter and compliance report, with the case scheduled for hearing in the coming weeks.

The Telangana High Court has issued notices to Rangareddy district collector C. Narayana Reddy regarding allegations of illegal construction on Bhoodan lands situated in Nagaram village of Maheswaram mandal. The notices were issued after concerns that construction was continuing despite the court's earlier order directing a status quo on these survey numbers.

Justice K. Lakshman asked the collector why a report on the alleged violations had not been filed and directed that a detailed counter be placed before the court in both cases during the next hearing. The matter has now been posted for further proceedings in the first half of October.

The court had previously instructed the collector to list the disputed lands under a prohibited category to ensure that no changes or structures were made. As this directive was not carried out, contempt proceedings were initiated against the collector.

Petitioner Birla Mallesh presented photographs in court that showed construction activity, including a boundary wall, taking place on the disputed site. He explained that he had made representations to the collector's office in mid-July seeking immediate intervention, but no steps were taken.

The case has drawn attention as Bhoodan lands have long been a subject of disputes, with several instances in Telangana where land meant for redistribution was encroached upon or misused. The court's directions highlight the need for stricter monitoring and enforcement to prevent further violations.
