Once completed, the 35.20 km Metro Lines 4 and 4A will connect Wadala, Ghatkopar, and Mulund in Mumbai to Kasarvadavali and Gaimukh in Thane. The project aims to address the growing demand for efficient public transportation in the region.

The trial run for the first phase of Mumbai Metro Lines 4 and 4A was successfully conducted in Thane, demonstrating progress in improving urban mobility. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, flagged off the trial run covering a 4.4-kilometer stretch between Gaimukh Junction and Vijay Garden. The project, with an estimated investment of INR 16,000 crore, aims to connect key areas in Mumbai and Thane, providing a faster and more efficient mode of transportation for daily commuters.

The 35.2-kilometer Metro Lines 4 and 4A will link Wadala, Ghatkopar, and Mulund areas in Mumbai to Kasarvadavali and Gaimukh in Thane. The project is expected to serve approximately 22 lakh commuters daily, reducing travel time by 50 to 75 percent. The Chief Minister emphasized that the completion of this metro line would make it the largest metro network in the country.

The first phase of the project is scheduled to open by December 2025, with the remaining stations up to Cadbury Junction expected to be operational by April 2026. The full extension to Wadala is anticipated by October 2027, making it the country's longest elevated metro route at 58 kilometers. The metro will initially operate with six-coach trains, with infrastructure designed to accommodate eight-coach trains.

A 45-acre depot at Mogarpada is under construction to support Metro Lines 4, 4A, 10, and 11. The project is projected to serve 13 lakh commuters daily initially, scaling to 21 lakh, and is expected to cut travel time by 75%. The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the project's significance and criticized prior delays during the MVA government's tenure. They emphasized the metro's key role in connecting major Mumbai and Thane suburbs, reducing road congestion through six multi-line interchanges.
