The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has reclaimed over 300 acres of government land in Gajularamaram, Quthbullapur, valued at INR 15,000 crore. Originally owned by the Andhra Pradesh State Finance Corporation, the land was transferred to Telangana after bifurcation. Following public complaints, HYDRAA cleared unauthorised constructions-demolishing incomplete, fraudulent structures while sparing occupied homes of poor families-and fenced the land to prevent further encroachment. Investigations revealed land-grabbers had illegally sold small plots using fake documents, often with political collusion. Legal cases have been filed against the perpetrators. The action signals a firm stance against encroachment while safeguarding vulnerable households.
The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has taken back control of over 300 acres of government land in Gajularamaram, Quthbullapur, estimated to be worth INR 15,000 crore at current market value. The land originally belonged to the Andhra Pradesh State Finance Corporation and was transferred to the Telangana State Finance Corporation following the state bifurcation.
Following a series of public complaints, HYDRAA launched an operation six months ago in coordination with revenue officials and local police. Encroaching structures were removed and the reclaimed land was fenced to prevent further intrusions. On one side, unauthorised constructions were cleared, while residences of poor families were spared. It was clarified that only incomplete buildings, lacking basic fittings and intended for fraudulent sales, were demolished.
Investigations revealed that local "land-grabbers" had subdivided portions of the property and sold them in small plots, priced between INR 5 lakh and INR 10 lakh each. Around 40 acres were found to be occupied by families who had purchased plots of 60-120 square yards through dubious transactions involving fake documents and the collusion of officials or politicians. In layouts spread over dozens of acres, multiple unlawful deals were uncovered. HYDRAA teams were specifically instructed not to demolish occupied homes of the underprivileged. Legal complaints have been filed against those responsible for these fraudulent land deals.
HYDRAA's decision to act firmly against politically connected encroachers while protecting the dwellings of vulnerable families demonstrates a balanced and pragmatic approach. The dismantling of fraudulent layouts, coupled with ongoing legal action against perpetrators, is expected to deter similar illegal activities in future and reinforce the security of government assets.
