Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has announced that land ownership rights for nearly 40,000 Bengali families in Gadchiroli will be expedited. Descendants of refugees from East Pakistan, these families have faced decades-long delays in securing legal ownership. To fast-track the process, drone-based surveys will be used for accurate mapping, and private workers will be hired to address manpower shortages in the land records department. A Lok Adalat is also being set up to resolve disputes over encroachments and record mismatches. The minister said the initiative combines welfare and efficiency, aiming to deliver long-pending property rights while modernising land management in the district.
The Revenue Minister, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, announced that land ownership rights for nearly 40,000 Bengali families in Gadchiroli would be expedited. These families are descendants of refugees from East Pakistan who settled in the region many years ago. He instructed the district collector to place their long-pending ownership transfer proposals at the top of the priority list to end the prolonged delays.
To facilitate this process, the government is deploying drones for survey mapping, which will improve accuracy and transparency in land measurement. Given the shortage of manpower within the land records department, permission has been granted to hire private workers to speed up the measurement and verification process.
A Lok Adalat is also being set up to resolve disputes relating to ownership, encroachments and mismatches in official records. The minister stressed that the state was committed to combining welfare measures with administrative efficiency by both clearing old cases and integrating technological upgrades into the process. He affirmed that the government would ensure all eligible families receive rightful ownership without further delay.
Through drone-based mapping, additional staffing and alternative legal channels, the administration is attempting to bring both speed and fairness to the process. If executed effectively, the initiative is expected to deliver long-denied property rights while modernising land management in the district.
