Miraj Cinemas has launched a premium three-screen multiplex at the site of the former Akash Cinema in Azadpur, North Delhi. Once a well-known 1000-seater single-screen theatre, the space has been completely transformed to offer 427 luxury seats, state-of-the-art technology, immersive interiors, and gourmet dining. The legendary Akash Cinema in Azadpur, once a 1000-seater single-screen landmark for Delhi's cinephiles between 1987 and 2016, has made a stylish return. It has now reopened under the banner of Miraj Cinemas, one of India's fastest-growing national multiplex chains, as a modern three-screen luxury cinema housed at the same historic address in Naniwala Bagh, Azadpur. The newly revamped Miraj Cinemas Azadpur offers three premium screens with a total capacity of 427 seats-spread across an auditorium with 239 seats and two smaller ones with 94 seats each. Each screen features plush, wide-cushioned seating with ample legroom and unobstructed views. The technology has been upgraded with 2K digital projection, Dolby surround sound, and immersive 3D capabilities, providing a high-end viewing experience tailored to today's audience expectations.
Upon entering, guests are welcomed into a chic, sophisticated environment, complete with marble flooring, ambient lighting, and Art Deco-inspired design elements. The interiors merge modern aesthetics with nostalgic motifs, subtly paying tribute to the cinema's long-standing legacy in the area. Premium washrooms and a stylish lobby lounge further enhance the upscale ambience, offering both comfort and visual appeal for patrons.
The cinema also introduces two exclusive food and beverage zones-Chef's Corner and Pop Corner. At Chef's Corner, moviegoers can enjoy freshly prepared multicuisine fare including Indian favourites, Oriental dishes, and fusion bites, all cooked on-site. Pop Corner, meanwhile, delivers cinema staples such as buttery popcorn, nachos, fizzy drinks, and snack combos. Every dish is curated by in-house chefs to meet gourmet standards, creating a culinary experience that matches the theatre's luxury focus.
